10 Reasons to Start Earning Accreditation in 2023
Chances are, if you haven’t already earned your APR, you’ve thought about what it might mean for you personally or how it could bolster your career. Maybe you’ve been thinking, “Next year will be the year!”
And Now, Here. We. Are. It’s already well into 2023. Fresh beginnings and new possibilities await. While I’ve never really been one for making resolutions or absolutes that start Jan. 1, I am a fan of making continual progress through small steps to reach a goal.
I’ve never been shy to admit that it took me six years to earn my APR. Of course, that may seem like an unreasonable amount of time for some of you to consider, but the point is, I did it.
Whatever path you decide to take toward Accreditation, here are 10 reasons current APRs say it could also make a difference for you:
- You will change from thinking you are an effective practitioner to knowing you are a strong practitioner.
- Say it with us, “I’m an APR — there is no communication challenge too great.” You will exhibit more professional confidence when working with others
- Your approach to issues and opportunities will become more organized, procedural and consistent. (Hello, “RPIE.”)
- You will join a network that encompasses only 18% of all PRSA members. That’s a huge feather in your cap!
- The APR credential may enable you to earn a promotion or a higher salary…as well as notice from recruiters.
- You will become more confident in strategic management of the communications function.
- You will demonstrate a high ethical standard in your work, which will benefit both you and your clients.
- You will be participating in the ultimate public relations professional development experience.
- Your supervisors and clients will respect your opinions and ideas, and listen to you more, which will bolster your respect within your organization.
- Your increased confidence and self-esteem will naturally increase your influence among colleagues and clients.
Becoming a better practitioner and enhancing professional development were the key reasons that about 88% of your fellow PRSA members who earned their APR in 2022 said they pursued this distinctive credential.
Will 2023 be the year you start planning for your APR?
