UAB Accreditation Tips and Tools — March 2015

April is APR Month! What Are YOU Doing to Generate Interest?

One of the best ways to generate interest among members in sitting for the Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations is helping them feel part of this elite group within our profession. In 2015, consider the following ideas to boost recognition for YOUR APRs:

  • APR-only networking breakfast or lunch.
  • APR social gathering — meet at a local watering hole, get a block of tickets for a local sporting event, play, concert or speaker.
  • Host an APR-only forum where they are given a challenge issue to help solve for your Chapter or organization or maybe even for a local business!
  • APR Ribbons — make sure your APRs have a ribbon to honor this designation to wear at conferences and professional development programs. To get a supply, contact kathy.mulvihill@prsa.org.
  • Watch Facebook and Twitter for posts on activities throughout April that you can use!

If you are already doing something special for the APRs in your Chapter or organization, please share it with others via our APR-only LinkedIn page. If you are not a member of this closed group, join today!

April 14, 2015, 3-4 p.m. EDT: APR Online Course Open House

Led by facilitator Michael Henry, this Open House is free to all and can help APR chairs be familiar with the elements of the online course when speaking with APR candidates. RSVP by noon (EDT) on Monday, April 6, 2015.

April 21 Webinar: Updating the APR Examination

The UAB’s Examination and Preparation workgroup (E&P) has completed a comprehensive review of research resources relative to the perceptions of the computer-based Examination for Accreditation in Public Relations to determine if and how the areas of knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) should be modified and updated. This engaging presentation, to be led by Bey-Ling Sha, Ph.D., APR, UAB immediate past chair, and Kathy Giery, APR, CPRC, chair of the E&P workgroup, will cover the proposed updates to the KSAs and a look behind the scenes on how the computer-based Examination will be updated by January 2016.

April May Be APR Month, But It’s Not Too Early to Get November 4–7 on Your Calendar!

One of the best opportunities you can publicize to your membership is attendance at the APR Boot Camp held just prior to and in conjunction with the PRSA International Conference each fall. For 2015, the Conference will open (tentatively) November 8–10 in Atlanta, Georgia, and the APR Boot Camp will be November 4–7. Save the date now and the details will be available this summer.
